I can still remember the moment that I received the phone call from my Mum & Dad’s neighbors with the news of what had happened. Thankfully no one was hurt, the pets were fine, and it was just possessions and a 400+ year old (irreplaceable) cottage that were lost (I won’t go into how distressing that all was because that is another story).
Anyway, that’s the background to Blissford’s Biggest Erection, and this is what it’s all about…
and this, the view from the road (or Times Square as we like to call it), rather than the garden:
…and this is what keeps it all together – wooden pegs.
Incidentally, did you know that the entire oak structure just sits on the brick plinth? If you were strong enough to lift that amount of solid green oak then you could walk off with it…!
The Tour…
If you look at the first picture, you are looking at Postbox Cottage (II) from the far side of the garden. Nearest to you at the left is the lounge extension with french windows. This side of house is south facing and gets all the sun, and the 14×21 foot lounge will be open right up into the roof a bit like a medieval hall! Moving down you have the “main cottage” with a study and kitchen (bathroom and hall in between) with a bedroom a piece above.
Should be quite nice…
