Just thought I would chalk up congratulations to rachel2205 on getting her First for her English and History degree from York!
Takes me back a bit – nine years in fact – to me getting my 2:1 from Crewe+Alsager Faculty of the Manchester Metropolitan University – there see, it might only be a 2:1 but at least I get the opportunity to be inventive as to how to abreviate that into the space on job applications normally designed for institutions with less syllables – and anyway nine years – is it really that long? Thanks, now I feel really old…
No, seriously Rachel – Congratulations!!!
I got a 2(i) as well. We always joked that people who got firsts obvious had no life, but to be honest I was just lazy and hated my subject. I wish I’d realised that college works much better if you’re actually interested in your work. Too bad school teaches you that choice is irrelevant, personal interest is irrelevant, grades are all that matter. I dropped all the stuff I enjoyed out of fear of getting bad marks! How fucking stupid is that?!
Then again (and I apologise in advance if I’m wrong about this) but your choices have led you to having a (reasonably) well-paid career to date(???), whereas I went to the middle of nowhere to do my degree in subjects that I enjoyed, had a whole year on income support, another year back at college, three years temping, 348 applications, 49 interviews and I’m still lowly paid for my skills?!!
Not that I regret any of it… 😉
Well yeah I suppose there is that. I can be comfortably miserable. 🙂
I expected a 2.1, and a 2.1 is very good! What did you study?
Creative Arts
Which was modular so included Writing, Visual Arts, and … err … Live Arts (used to be called Integrated Arts, now I think they call it Contemporary Arts?!!
I kind of expected a 2:1 because that’s what I’d been getting all the way through my course (3 years, 100% coursework, no exams!! not even a disertation – honours project instead…) but I think I was probably on the cusp of 2:2 to 2:1.
I think my year was even split between those two with three folks getting a First and three getting a Third…
