A beautiful autumnal day, at times today. I went into Oxford this afternoon after a leisurely morning pottering round the house. The trip to Oxford was one of those in and out, but necessary trips: a new sketchpad for Wednesday’s life drawing class, and some diary refills for me, me mum, and me dad.

There was a Stop The War protest in Broad Street which I had to get past to reach the art shop, and as I dodged the crowds outside The Oxford Story, I came face to face with the hunched and hooded figure of a prisoner behind iron mask! …a mannequin of course, but alarmingly fitting to the drumming and chanting of the protesters. I took a leaflet and kind of showed my support, and then I moved on to buy sketchpads…

Tomorrow: the setting sun is fractured by clouds and Hanna Katla has arrived at the old farm, and her family’s summerhouse. The story continues…
