In my novel, I draw on the terms alfar (Icelandic for ‘elf’) and huldulfolk (the hidden people). Currently I am re-reading Alan Garner’s excellent The Weirdstoneof Brisingamen where it has evil goblin/bad-elf type creatures the svart-alfar and the Huldrafolk. I don’t remember either of these names from the first time I read the book years and years ago but it amuses me of the similarity to my mythical creatures. I know that Alan Garner is careful with his reserarch, but did he draw on Icelandic/Nordic tradition for his characters or are they old anglo saxon corruptions of nordic myth.

Hrmm, interesting…
