I did a post on this subject, but pulled it as I have people on my f-list who are *obsessed* with Doctor Who and didn’t want to offend them :-/ So I’ll put what I wrote here instead, lol –
“I also have to say that I have never really learned to love the new-look Doctor Who. My husband and son love it, but I have never taken it to my heart. I can never love Eccleston or Tennant with the love I have for Pertwee and Baker.
That said, I have really enjoyed individual episodes. ‘Blink’, for instance, was an example of superb old-fashioned storytelling, which is where I think Doctor Who’s strengths lie. The episodes where everyone’s racing around like headless chickens are much less appealing to me – too much speed and bling and slickness but the wrong sort of tension. And Captain Jack annoys me. Sorry, but there it is :-/
Anyway, I think I’ve figured out what’s bothering me about John Simm’s portrayal of the Master. Now it may or may not be intentional, but it just struck me that Simm’s Master comes across more like a spoilt child than an evil genius – which might work for other people, but isn’t really happening for me. (And I still think Derek Jacobi would have made a fabulous, full-time new Master.)”
How crap. I hope you made it clear that you had organised your wedding and honeymoon before you knew you wouldn’t have a job by then. So sorry if it didn’t fit in with their plans!!!!
