Tonight was the night of the Creation Theatre Press and VIP night for their new production of Hamlet. I met Claire (fellow flautist) and her boyfriend, and then we went in to wine and canapés in the VIP enclosure and got chatted to by various staff, producers, deputy-producers and the head-man himself too. Then we found our seats and settled down to enjoy the show. With some of the same actors and the same director as last years Merchant of Venice, this was again similarly very modern dress. Utilising TV screens and messages delivered by text message, I felt that in this production Gari Jones, while last years production was a take on the rise of the far right in todayâs society, this was a comment on the excess of celebrity culture.
My only complaint would be my cold feet during the second half.
