The plan for today was originally to go to the University of Oxford arboretum to gaze upon the autumn colours. That was, at least, until yesterday’s bike buying exploits. So Plan B was to go for a bike ride, come back for a bite to eat, and then go to the arboretum in the evening. That’s not exactly how it worked out. We headed out along the back roads of the back road to Stoke Wood, where we stopped for a walk around and a successful forage for way to many sloes than we really needed (in part thanks to the gererous loan of a passing woman’s walking stick to hook down branches)…

Then we biked back via Emma’s old childhood friend Emma’s old farm at Bucknell (which is a delightfully pretty village) and the Trigger Pond pub, where we stopped for a nice pint of cider and some crisps in the garden before returning to Bicester, the Bure Park nature reserve, the local supermarket for Co-ops own gin, and to my house. Measuring it on the map later, it proved to be some 10 mile bike ride. A very enjoyable day out! 🙂

Coda: On the 21 April 2007 we finished up the day, squeezing my brand new bike into the back of Emma’s car. On 21 October 2007, in the cold of night, we finish up squeezing Emma’s new bike into the back of the same car. Beautiful symetry. 🙂
