It is ages since I’ve watched the Royal Variety Performance, which was on tonight. But it was pretty good fun actually with a good mix of acts. I was a bit disappointed though by the song from Wicked. At first I didn’t recognise Kerry Ellis â but then again as herself she is fair-haired and white whilst in character as Elphaba she is black-haired and, umm, green â but also her voice was oddly disappointing.
Having seen her live she is absolutely stunning with such a strong voice, but tonight, all be it in a ‘rocked-up’ version, she was lacking the same impressiveness to the point that I wondered if she was the same girl. I think the levels on the music were turned up too much and she had to shout rather than sing.
Still, a flippin’ good track though! 🙂
