The life that is not your own

I’ve been making steady progress with Mr Tumnal’s story this week, and as I do the details of his curious life are firmed up in my mind. It has bothered me that I don’t know exactly how this story is going, even though (before you castigate me for not having a plan) the nature of the story is such that I can’t know the full details of the story until I have got inside of the head of the character and worked out how his mind works.

• In order to keep Louis close, and where she can reach him when she needs him, it was always in Miss Leroy’s plan to have him settled with a wife.
• When Louis created the character of an imaginary child as well, this confuses things, particularly when the child, Sarah, takes corporeal form and starts to challenge Louis’ reality.
• It has all happened before.
