The Shepherd Family descended on London on Thursday to witness the investiture of my Dad to his CBE. Prince Charles stood in for the Queen in the Ball Room at Buckingham Palace to give out the investitures. A band played from the gallery throughout and the royal party was flanked by four beefeaters.
We were pleased to see that the authorities had taken appropriate security steps to ensure the safety of Professor John Shepherd CBE FRS with road closures and mounted police in evidence (there wasn’t any other event of note that day, was there?).
After the investiture the Family Shepherd retired to the restaurant at the National Gallery, following which the my Dad took time to talk to the public, and network with a friendly American couple who wanted to know why so many people were looking so smart in London that day. In retrospect we wondered if they had actually meant all the police and the students marching but they did say people dressed smartly!
