~ I am so, so lucky that my job enables me, and the bosses permit me, to work from home as I had to stay home today for the plumber to fix our heating situation. We were actually pretty toasty warm up until bedtime last night because of the electric heaters but the temperature dropped like the the proverbial stone. Come the morning it was -11°C outside and only 9°C indoors. For most of the morning I shivered my way through a pretty productive time, logged in remotely to my work computer.

~ The boiler repair was actually reasonably straight forward. It’s a condensing boiler, we’ve now discovered, and the problem was not actually with the boiler, but that the outlet for the condensation went into our drainpipe from the roof, and this was frozen, top to bottom. So the condensate had no where to go and had frozen itself and backed up into the boiler where it dripped out and stopped it working.

~ This evening we had our Sunday roast: a pheasant from the local butchers at a very bargain price – well, pheasant’s are – which was very nice and tasty. Now we are just relaxing in a nice warm, snuggly house…
