As Stephen Bell – our new conductor at Abingdon Concert Band – told the audience at tonight’s concert, today has been the busiest shopping day in the run up to Christmas and thus, surely Christmas starts here. In the attrative Park Road location of St Michael and All Angels Church in Abingdon we heralded in the festive season with carols and Christmas joy and more. Cats and waltzes in the shorter first half gave way to Leroy Anderson’s A Christmas Festival and Philp Sparke’s Veni Emmanuel – technically challenging but I think we just about pulled it off…
Certainly, our little band managed to get, possibly our first, standing ovation.
