A month ago, the following card popped through the door from the Lord Lieutenent’s Office…
…and today the finally arrived. We donned our smartest clothes to attend the Three Counties Diamond Jubilee Garden Party on the bank’s of the Thames just outside Henley. The morning was tinged with sadness. Henny-Penny, our youngest chicken was not well yesterday and this morning we took her into the vets and sadly had to put her to sleep.
After a picnic in the car park we entered the party, where there were exhibits by various organisations from Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, including a beautiful old Thames Skiff, the Red Bull F1 cars, the Gloriana state boat from the London Pageant, and the Wycombe Chair Museum. We never got hear a band of Oxfordshire school children of mainly flautists, including a bass flute. We had tea which consisted of homemade lemonade, sandwiches with the crusts cut off and a selection of little cakes, and then took our position on a grassy mound from where we could get a good view of the river pageant and the Queen.
The pageant was a narrated procession of boats illustrating the history of the river Thames itself.
Sounds like a lot of fun and you both look very nice!
