Re: publish from the kitchen table!

I have done book printing and binding in the past – most recently a couple of years ago – but I don’t think I would want to do it ‘seriously’ as a means of then saying I’m published, come and buy it.

I think if Shepline Publishing were to publish my novel, I would need them to either fork out for ‘conventional’ printing of x thousand copies, or accept that my POD books will make a loss, and think of it as dipping the toe (or should that be spine?) in the water until you can create a demand to get a load ‘conventionally’ printed.

That’s the really tough part to do on your own. I think self-publishing is a great idea for local-interest books, where your target audience is right there and marketing is much less of an issue (easier to get local media and bookshops interested in something with a local angle). But with anything else, how are you going to market your novel beyond your local area?
