On the nineteenth day of advent: it’s snow joke https://shepline.com/2010/12/19/on-the-nineteenth-day-of-advent-its-snow-joke/ https://shepline.com/2010/12/19/on-the-nineteenth-day-of-advent-its-snow-joke/#respond Sun, 19 Dec 2010 18:40:00 +0000 http://journal.shepline.com/on-the-nineteenth-day-of-advent-its-snow-joke/ Slept well last night and got up to a beautiful day with a garden laden thick with snow. Next door gazebo has collapsed – nice! I was really looking forward to going out for a nice walk in the snow with Emma and my camera…

We had a good breakfast too, and whilst Emma headed upstairs for a shower I went about washing up. It was during the washing up that I noticed the puddle on the side in the kitchen, and then, the red flashing light on the boiler. I tried restarting it and it seemed to work, but then soon went off again. So we shut everything down and put a bucket in place to gather the drips. Phoned several plumbers, and in the end, signed up to some British Gas thing in order to get a plumber out first thing tomorrow. We’ve had to drain the system and consequently we now have no central heating and no water. Thankfully our electric fire in the lounge is keeping that room okay and the upstairs isn’t too bad.

We’re snuggled up now in the lounge, and hoping that normality will be resumed shortly. Weirdly a friend of mine seems to have exactly the same problem. I hope Caroline manages to get toasty warm again soon!

Sopping https://shepline.com/2007/05/15/sopping-2/ https://shepline.com/2007/05/15/sopping-2/#respond Tue, 15 May 2007 18:28:00 +0000 http://journal.shepline.com/sopping-2/ The past couple of days I’ve been working extra time up to give me time to leave earlier on Friday for the weekend. Today, I made an error in judgement in doing so. It had been raining on and off (mainly on) all day, but at 5pm, just as I was leaving the rains really did come down in a stonking great thunderstorm of a deluge.

I did have my waterproof jacket and trousers (the latter still stained with Icelandic mud) and this did keep me mostly dry, ending up just a little wet ‘around the edges’…

…that is apart from my feet. Within seconds of being out in the rain, my feet were squelching in little pools of water inside my shoes as I peddled through the streets.

Back at the Park&Ride I took off my shoes and poured out the water, and removed my socks and wrung them out.
