Anxiety Dreaming

Weirdly, both Emma and my mum had very similar dreams last night. Em’s was that she woke up to find that there were lots of people she didn’t know staying in the house who had eaten all the breakfast and there was nothing left her and everyone she knew had already gone out.

Then my Mum revealed her dream that there were loads of people who were turning up to the wedding and all needing food and there not being enough.

The Tesco delivery did, in the end arrive, a little late but taking up two thirds of his van. I’ve never seen so much food – not even on National Trust holidays. It was surely the biggest food order I’ve ever seen, and possibly will ever, see.

Since I have started watching Heros a few week’s ago, the question of what super power I would most like to have has naturally drifted in and out of my mind at times. I always thought that would be a tough choice, but actually its not…

What could be cooler than to have the gift of being able to make your imagination come true. How cool would that be? Very cool! Next to the guy who steals other people’s abilities that’s got to be just about the coolest one there is. And I’m not talking about using it to make the really big things (although the temptation to ‘imagine politicians doing the right thing’ would be a temptation too hard to resist). No, I would you use it primarily for the smaller, more fun thinngs. Imagining the boss suddenly skipping through the office, the classic break out in Broadway numbers in the open plan office, having one’s car veer off the road in a traffic jam and fly over the roundabout…

The Weekend Plan

Partly in a response to a resupply request of some Electronic Deliverables made by TechBooks in which, in additon to supplying them to the ftp site they sent me a copy of the file: mnr_v0_i0_aor_g9E7B1C7A-0716-4F26-B756-B5B2788E7562.go with the message:

p.s.: Although we have uploaded the zip file and manifest file on the site, its still processing from there. We have attached the manifest file for you incase you require this.

and partly in response to the aforementioned company announcement, the following conversation thus ensued with my friend and colleague Elizabeth Ewing…

Me: And why exactly would I require a god-forsaken manifest file in an email??!!! *hits head on desk repeatedly*

Dreadful Lizzy: My dear Thos – Knock that off, you’ll make a dent in the desk! You see, you do under-rate yourself. I haven’t the first foggy clue what a manifest file is, or why you wouldn’t want one. (Translation: better you than me, mate…)

Me: So anyway, whatcha up to this weekend? An exciting two days devoted to the creative word (as opposed to unoriginal rehashed astronomical gibberish…)?

Dreadful Lizzy: Going up to St. Andrews Saturday for a confab with my writer pals Debby (Deborah Turner Harris) and Bob (Robert J. Harris). Bob is a plot-factory, so I’m going to feed him a little background and see what he comes up with (I’m the world’s worst plotter). With any luck, something to send to my editor in NY! Sunday is housework, as my in-laws (who are in fact lovely people) are coming up for Thanksgiving, i.e. the weekend after this one. Gibber… hate housework but love a clean, tidy house. Go figure… How about you?

Me: A walk in autumnal woods if there’s any colour left after the wild winds and perpetual rain, and fixing up my novel. After today’s announcement getting published and becoming the next JK Rowling has got to be the best answer for sanity (yeah, I know I am being hopelessly unrealistic but hey, it’s Friday, and if you can’t dream on Friday when can you dream?!)

Dreadful Lizzy: >becoming the next JK Rowling Race ya?

Me: Well I’ve got the finished first draft, you’ve not even got yourself a plot! *grins* On your marks, get set…

Dreadful Lizzy: First one to get a contract wins! Size of advance does not matter. Existence of advance does!

Me: Does Macmillan New Writing count, where you don’t get an advance but just pitiful royalties?

Dreadful Lizzy: Dunno, will have to look at it! And royalties are always pitiful, didn’t anyone ever tell you that? Unless, of course, you’re the next JK Rowling – wait, isn’t this where we started this conversation?

Words and Dreams

In a small way to celebrate various people on my friends list doing the NaNoWriMo Challenge, aapplecatching has given me 45 words of hers (I only asked for 20) to kickstart my own writing project again. These are provided below, to sit here and make me think about how and where to splice them into chapter five…

At the table next to us a man and a woman sat with their elbows on the table, each staring in a different direction, silent. Two young men in football shirts played pool, speaking only to congratulate each other or commiserate over a missed shot.

Last night was Hallowe’een, or All Hallow’s Eve, and I had a fittingly spooky dream. I was in a big rambling house and garden with a group of friends, and there were mischievous fairy folk around too. From what I remember, the moon kept going in and out, and with with every wane, danger came and went. When the moon was out, the garden was unsafe, but when the moon was in I could cross it safely, and for some reason I had to keep on going between the buildings, and crossing the gardens. However when the moon was in there were added dangers in the house. At one point, I am chasing along an upper corridor and throwing myself down a spiral staircase…

It was actually, a really fun dream! Spooky, but enjoyable! *grins*
