From the present, the past… https://shepline.com/2011/03/13/from-the-present-the-past/ https://shepline.com/2011/03/13/from-the-present-the-past/#respond Sun, 13 Mar 2011 22:46:00 +0000 http://journal.shepline.com/?p=1676 Further to reading this interesting article about self-publishing eBooks I have been giving serious thought to publishing my last novel, The End Of All Worlds, as an eBook, or more precisely a serialisation of eBooks. The book is neatly divided up into six parts so this would be quite a good fit. To this end, I have experimented this weekend with making eBooks and have created a one that works on my Kindle. However, at this point I was faced with a new dilemma…

Reading it back on the Kindle for the first time in several years, and with the benefit of having been writing in the past tense whilst working on Mr Tumnal, I am struck with how much better The End Of All Worlds could be if I was to convert it to past tense. I have attempted a few pages and it seems okay, but the prospect of converting 299 further pages of present tense pages, does somewhat fill me with horror. A major revision in the history of this particular novel if there was one!

Past, present https://shepline.com/2008/02/06/past-present/ https://shepline.com/2008/02/06/past-present/#respond Wed, 06 Feb 2008 10:17:00 +0000 http://journal.shepline.com/past-present/ I’ve been writing in present tense for so long now, I now find, as make the first tentative steps to Louis Tumnal’s story I’m finding that the natural choice for me is still present tense. This is awkward as I want to write this story in the more traditional past tense. I guess seven years of working on Blood & Fire and the screen writing before it has taken its toll on my poor brain… :-
