I have to say it is not a great surprise to me that the BBC have decided to end Home Truths, as was annouced today. When John Peel died a year ago, I felt that the show was, as Radio 4’s controller Mark Damazer says, bound up completely with John’s personality. I guess I was always an occasional listener. I would go through phases of listening to it religiously every Saturday morning as I got up, with missing it one week and then missing it for several more. But I definitely listened to it more when it was John Peel’s baby, than during the year with guest presenters. It’s not that the guest presenters were bad, it’s just that they weren’t quite it. and it is a hard thing to put your finger on when trying to continue with a show.
So, farewell Home Truths. Rest in peace.
