13594947In Search of Rex Whistler: His Life and His Work

by Mirabel Cecil, Hugh Cecil

The artist, illustrator, and muralist that was Rex Whistler is one of my favourite artists having discovered him 23 years ago now whilst visiting Plas Newydd on Anglesey. I fell in love with his work immediately and completed a personal study as part of my A-Level Art exam.

This new biography is unusual for non-fiction/art books for being completely readable and fascinating. Usually I find that after the initial enthusiasm of reading such books my interest wanes and I never finish the book. Not so with Mirabel and Hugh Cecil’s book. I lapped up the richly illustrated book and easy to read yet insightful text. If you want to read about one of the countries greatest painters whose life was tragically cut short by war at the age of 39 on his first day in action, then this is the book for you.

It will also give you a list of places to visit and books to collect. Wonderful! 🙂
