A hopeless tale but a hauntingly, beautiful, powerful and moving film. I am ashamed to say that I know little of Ted Hughes and even less of Sylvia Plath. I have just finished watching the film, Sylvia – I would like to know more about these two great writers.
My critisim of the film is that the scarecly any of either of their actual poetry, and as such I only know of the tragicness of her story through what I have read and know already. I believe, through the film, that she was a talented yet frustrated writer, but I do not feel that I know her as a writer – nor him – and this I feel is a problem. The frustrating thing about it is that, if I remember rightly, the lack of actual poetry in the film is down to matters of copyright … I growl at these legal things…
A good film though. I recommend it.
I know a lot about Plath but I don’t want to see the film 🙂
Ditto.
People tend to take sides with Plath or Hughes, and I can’t remember whether the reviews of the film said that it was balanced, or not.
If you’re still in touch with Helen (Sirensongs/Treasure Box) I’m pretty sure that she could tell you quite a bit about them.
I’m guessing that lettersdecachet is Helen – looks like the kind of friends list she would have.
