Upon returning from London Town, I had an encouraging email response from siren_songs as regards chapter one (the first 20,000 words) of Blood & Fire. I think one of the things I find most encouraging about it, that not only did Helen like it, and feel that it was well-written, but that this critique was coming from a published writer and from someone, by all accounts, who doesn’t normally read this kind of genre.
Also reading between the lines, it seems that the (often commented) challenging ‘filmic’ style and abrupt cuts in scene and viewpoint, was successfully done.
Whatever happens to this novel in the end, this is definitely good encouragement to keep on with it. I just hope that the remaining five chapters succeed in living up to expectations…?!!
Hehe…I didn’t find the abrupt cuts confusing, and it’s a good way of upping the tension. Also I really like your Icelandic setting, which makes it more unusual. (My husband has visited that country – he’s got quite a few photos from his visit, and many of the views are quite unearthly, it could almost be another planet!) More in my email to follow…
Re: Sorry!
I started watching Madness of King George, what what, I really enjoyed that movie, and wanted to see it again, but thought, no, I’ve said I’m going to the party. And I did (and I had to trapse in from over Bicester way!!
Maybe next time?
